City seeking applications for Rising Sport Star Award, Community Recreation Enhancement Grant

Mar 23, 2022 | 11:03 AM

Nominations for young athletes are being sought by The City of Red Deer for the Rising Sport Stars awards program.

Many young athletes in our community are just beginning a lifelong journey of being active and achieving success in sport. Through the Rising Sport Stars program, athletes aged 11 years or younger who participate in a Red Deer sport organization are recognized for their commitment, passion, effort or for overcoming adversity to successfully participate and develop skills, regardless of result.

After a two-year pause due to the pandemic, The City of Red Deer is happy to bring this award back to the community in 2022.

Nominations are completed and submitted by various sport groups and awards are presented annually at Xplore Sport Day: Saturday May 7, 2022 at Capstone Canada 150 Square. More information about the award ceremony and timing will be announced closer to the event.

Nominations are accepted via online form and must be submitted prior to the nomination deadline of Friday, April 29, 2022.

For more information and to submit a nomination please visit www.reddeer.ca/XploreSport.

Once again, non-profit groups are invited to apply for funding through The City of Red Deer’s Community Recreation Enhancement Grant. The program provides funding to enhance the delivery of community recreation programs, services and events in Red Deer.

Last fall, the intake for the Community Recreation Enhancement Grant, moved to an online submission process. The submission system is quick to set up and easy to use. All applications must be submitted via online portal available at www.reddeer.ca/RecreationGrants.

Applications are accepted twice per year. Completed applications must be submitted prior to the deadlines of 12:00 p.m. on April 1 or October 1 of the funding year.

In 2021, the City of Red Deer awarded over $90,000 to community sport and recreation groups in order to support and enhance their ability to deliver recreation services and programs to Red Deerians. The City of Red Deer is proud to offer supportive grant opportunities to assist our local sport and recreation organizations in delivering a variety of services to our community as they navigate through a post-pandemic recovery. A complete listing of 2021 grant recipients is available here.
