Mar 8, 2022 | 12:53 PM

Premier Jason Kenney and Energy Minister Sonya Savage are visiting our southern neighbors, attending the CERAWeek conference for energy initiatives.

The pair plans to develop, renew and strengthen Alberta’s relations with international stakeholders, gather market intelligence and aim to improve access to U.S. refiners at the CERAWeek conference in Houston, Texas from March 7-11.

“This conference provides another opportunity to promote Alberta’s innovative and world-leading oil and gas industry to key markets that are critical to Alberta’s recovery and growing our economy. We will be meeting with decision-makers to secure access to markets for Alberta energy, ensure our producers have access to refineries and attract job-creating investment to our province,” said Premier Kenney.

CERAWeek is one of the prominent energy events of the year, attracting top American decision-makers, heads of international energy companies and energy thought leaders.

Texas is Alberta’s second-largest trading partner in the United States responsible for over 111,000 and 60,000 jobs, respectively. In 2021, Alberta’s exports to the state totalled $10 billion, while Alberta’s imports from Texas totalled US$2.8 billion.

In a statement, government officials said the premier and minister will also be promoting Alberta’s strong environmental record, innovative energy sector, clean technology developments and efforts to reduce emissions, including carbon capture, utilization and storage.

The Premier will attend the conference from March 8-9. On Tuesday, he will be discussing energy perspectives with Raoul LeBlanc, Vice President for North American Unconventionals for financial analytics corporation S&P Global.
