International Women’s Day march to take place this Saturday

Mar 8, 2022 | 11:20 AM

This Saturday, Ubuntu-Mobilizing Central Alberta will host its annual International Women’s Day march, and once again in-person.

International Women’s Day is officially on March 8.

For the weekend event, Ubuntu is encouraging participants to gather at the Snell Auditorium inside the downtown Red Deer Public Library this Saturday at 10:30 a.m. At 11:00, the march will take place through the downtown, and back at the auditorium for 11:30, there will be a gathering and panel discussion.

The theme for this year’s event is ‘It takes a village to break the bias.’

“This event is a step to achieving this goal by having an open forum for women to communicate, create a dialogue of change and share in a safe environment in hopes we can collaborate and find solutions to these issues that we continue to face every day,” says Julaine Beattie, Ubuntu practicum and first-year RDP social work student.

Those who can’t attend for whatever reason, including feeling unwell, are encouraged to continue the conversation on social media by using the hashtag #BreakTheBias.

For those who do plan to attend, Ubuntu is encouraging you to register through Eventbrite.
