$75,000 Goal for Vet Clinic

Saving Grace Animal Society hosting 2nd Annual Telethon

Saving Grace Animal Society (SGAS) is announcing the return of their telethon on Saturday, Mar. 26, continuing to raise money for the construction of a new veterinarian clinic this year at their facility in Alix.

The shelter is putting out a call for families, individuals and businesses to register as an up to five-member ‘Dream Team’.

“A vet clinic is the next step in improving our ability to follow our vision: to rescue, rehabilitate and re-home any animal in need. Rescue them all, big or small,” said SGAS co-executive director, Amanda McClughan.

McClughan says the organization has experienced significant strain in keeping up with rescues, animal overflow and higher-than-normal medical trauma cases in recent months.

“Last year our medical bills averaged $65,000 per month, and we have projected savings of 50-60 per cent by having our own veterinary clinic on-site and ready to serve the animals we take in,” she said.

Earlier this year, Saving Grace held a Betty White Challenge in memory of the then-recently passed actress and prolific animal lover. The shelter raised an unexpected $100,000 from the campaign, contributing to their $500,000 goal for the clinic.

The goal for this year’s telethon is to raise $75,000.

“We have been very fortunate with our clinic fundraising efforts so far, and we are so close to hitting our goal that it’s getting very hard to contain our excitement,” shared McClughan.

Anyone can register on the shelter’s website for the 2nd Annual Telethon and the top teams will be awarded prizes by the Society including branded “swag” and private time with the animals.

McClughan will co-host this year’s telethon from Blindman Brewing in Lacombe while featuring Facebook Live updates throughout the day with information about Saving Grace, shout outs to donors and supporters and up-to-date information on funds raised towards this year’s goal.

“We have an incredible team who are just as passionate and hard-working as our donors, and to see the support come in is a validation that the work we do to offer animals a saving grace is recognized, appreciated and encouraged,” said McClughan. “Together we can do it, and we look forward to sharing the love, the laughs and the feel-good stories that come from our rescues and adoptions every day.”

Dream Teams are asked to register and can begin fundraising as soon as they are able with a shareable fundraising link helping to track totals until March 26.

Those interested in finding out more about the Telethon, participating as a dream team or learning more about becoming a corporate donor to the vet clinic are encouraged to reach out to the Society.
