Red Deer ringette team earns gold medal over the weekend

The U10 Step 3 Red Deer Rush took gold in Edmonton against the Edmonton Ring Robbers in the final game of the Black Gold League playoffs over the weekend.

Team officials say the game went into overtime after the Robbers scored with 1:30 left in the last period to make it 3-3.

Then with 2:40 left in the overtime period, Sophie Peake netted the game winning goal for the WolfPack to win the championship. Sophie Fleck, Avelynn Grzyb, and Blair Fleming scored in regular time.

The Red Deer Rush went 4-0 in the round robin, beating the Edmonton Ring Robbers 11-6, Spruce Grove Ice Devils 3-0, St. Albert Night-wolves 4-0, and Lacombe Lightning Bolts 5-1, to advance to the championship game.
