Red Deer Catholic Regional Schools is hosting a Blue and Yellow Day – A Day of Prayer for Ukraine, on Wednesday, Mar. 2.

Division officials say the Holy Father Pope Francis has declared March 2, Ash Wednesday, as a Day of Prayer for fasting and peace as he urges the faithful to pray for peace in Ukraine.

Officials say he tweeted on Feb. 27, “I renew my invitation for everyone to take part on 2 March, Ash Wednesday, in a Day of Prayer and Fasting for Peace in Ukraine, in order to be near to the suffering Ukrainian people, to be aware that we are all brothers and sisters, and to implore God for an end to the war.”

Division officials are encouraging central Albertans to join them in prayer for the people of Ukraine as they courageously defend their nation.

“Our message to the people of Ukraine is that you are not alone. We stand with you. Through prayer, we find strength in numbers. Now is a time for us to come together as a Division, and as a community, and pray for those impacted by the invasion and for peace,” said Board Chair, Kim Pasula at Red Deer Catholic Regional Schools.

If you would like to support those impacted in Ukraine, the Ukrainian Catholic Eparchy of Edmonton will match the funds raised.
