Red Deer musician Curtis Labelle launches national tour

Feb 24, 2022 | 1:00 PM

A Red Deer musician is hitting the road for his first cross-country tour next month.

Curtis Labelle is launching the High on Pride Tour March 4, and its first leg will run through June 25 with more than 60 shows. A second leg will take place in the fall.

Labelle’s musical stylings are inspired by an eclectic bunch, from Elton John to Billy Joel to Michael Jackson, plus Burton Cummings and Céline Dion.

“This is something I’ve wanted to do for a long time. A few people have asked me why I don’t do a smaller tour, but anyone who really knows me knows I never do anything small. I like to rise above and create my dreams,” says Labelle, 39.

“We have a vast array of show styles, and we’ll be all over the place, at bars, theatres, Legions, community halls, with full band performances to solo shows. We’ve got a $10,000 wardrobe.”

Labelle has honed his craft over the last few years performing shows in his home city – sharing his music and personal journey in a way he is proud of.

“It’s a huge reality check when I’m sitting in front of an audience. Those moments tell me I’m where I am supposed to be and doing what I’m supposed to be doing,” he says.

“The whole goal is to be yourself as an artist, and live your life to the fullest. Writing music and being able to share it nationally is a dream come true, and the title for my tour is perfect on every level because it’s a natural high when you walk out on stage, hear the roar or see people dancing. It lights that passion in me even more to deliver the product with more energy, excitement and entertainment value.”

The tour’s start also comes with the release of Labelle’s new single, entitled ‘On the Gun.’ Labelle says the track is rooted in a personal relationship experience.

“There’s a decision that has to be made, and either you’re going to make a change, or I’m going to make a change. The decision is, metaphorically speaking, pulling the trigger,” he explains.

‘On the Gun’ will release March 4 on Spotify, iTunes, Apple, Amazon Music, YouTube and other music services.
