Woman sentenced in central Alberta beating, kidnapping and robbery incident

A woman charged in a central Alberta beating, kidnapping and robbery incident has been sentenced to six years in jail.

Amber Loretta Knickle, 22, was convicted of robbery with a firearm and kidnapping/confinement with a firearm in Wetaskiwin provincial court on Feb. 3, and sentenced to six years in prison, while also being handed a lifetime firearms prohibition.

She was given credit, however, for 631 days of pre-trial custody, leaving her with 1,559 days left to serve starting Feb. 3.

Meantime, two additional counts of robbery with a firearm and assault were withdrawn.

Knickle and two other individuals were charged with robbery in the Sept. 2020 incident, which Ponoka RCMP say began during the early morning hours of Sept. 7, 2020.

Mounties’ investigation revealed that a 22-year-old male victim from Slave Lake, AB had been chatting with a woman online for about a year before agreeing to meet her.

Police say the male got into a vehicle — already determined to be stolen — with the female in Ponoka and was assaulted by two unknown males, one of whom had a gun.

Over a lengthy period of time, RCMP say the victim was driven to several banks and forced to provide his banking information in order for withdrawals to be made from his accounts. The victim’s truck and cell phone were also stolen and he was eventually dropped off in Blackfalds.

Then on Sept. 16, 2020, Mounties located a stolen vehicle in Gasoline Alley and arrested two of the suspects, who were identified as Chasetin Jon Arthur Morin and Jared Michael McLeod.

Morin was sentenced on Feb. 18, 2021 to 195 days in jail, satisfied by time served, after pleading guilty to flight from a peace officer. McLeod, meanwhile, saw his charges stayed in April of 2021, meaning legal proceedings have halted on his matters regarding the incident.

The vehicle seizure resulted in RCMP recovering an imitation firearm, loaded shotgun, ammunition, methamphetamine, and at least 61 pieces of miscellaneous stolen identity documents.

Knickle was later located and arrested on Sept. 18, 2021.
