Wetaskiwin RCMP respond to fatal motor vehicle collision

Alberta Mounties are investigating a tragic highway collision on Valentine’s Day.

On Feb. 14, at 2:00 p.m., Wetaskiwin RCMP responded to a collision on Highway 21 and Range Road 220.

Upon arrival, RCMP observed a passenger car and a semi-tractor trailer unit fully engulfed in flames. Police say the driver of the semi sustained minor injuries. However, the driver and sole occupant of the passenger vehicle was deceased.

RCMP remained on scene for several hours while they investigated the cause of the collision. Preliminary investigation reveals the southbound passenger car crossed over the center line into the path of the northbound semi.

Mounties say no information regarding the deceased will be released as they continue to properly identify them and locate next of kin.
