Red Deer city council to discuss temporary free parking stalls in downtown
Red Deer city council will consider reinstating temporary free parking stalls for downtown at their next regular meeting on Feb. 14.
Red Deerians experienced free temporary parking stalls, every fifth meter for up to two hours, throughout downtown from June to December 2021.
“We received positive feedback about free temporary parking stalls from downtown businesses and residents,” said Erin Stuart, Inspections and Licensing Manager. “By reinstating free temporary parking stalls, we aim to reduce barriers and encourage visits to downtown businesses and attractions, while demonstrating the city’s continued support for local businesses.”
If approved, the City says the temporary downtown parking program would look very similar to last year, with 215 meters included. Minor changes to the meter covers will be incorporated to ensure the details of the program are clear to downtown visitors, and additional information will be available online.
