Red Deer city facilities end Restrictions Exemption Program

Feb 9, 2022 | 5:06 PM

Starting today, Red Deer city facilities are no longer operating the Restrictions Exemption Program, meaning proof of vaccination, negative test result or medical exemption are not required for entry.

On Feb. 8, the provincial government announced a three-step plan to ease public health measures.

As well, it was announced there would be changes to mandatory masking requirements as follows:

  • Until February 14, existing masking requirements remain in place: all visitors over the age of 2 are required to wear a mask, unless participating in a physical activity.
  • As of February 14, children under 12 will not be required to wear masks in City facilities. Visitors ages 12 and up will be required to wear a mask, unless participating in a physical activity. Further masking requirements may be announced as part of the second stage of the provincial plan.
  • All staff will continue to wear masks, except while alone in work stations.

“In response to the Restrictions Exemption Program, youth-only programming was introduced as a way to include children aged 8-17 in recreation and culture activities without requiring vaccination records; however, this will not continue with the removal of the Restrictions Exemption Program,” said the City in a release.

Youth-only activities scheduled for Feb. 9 will continue, but the City confirms all future programs will be cancelled.

The City states, “Youth continue to be encouraged to participate in arts and recreation activities with all regularly scheduled public drop-in times.”

Indoor group sport, fitness and performance activities will continue for adults and youth, and participants will still be required to self screen for symptoms. Individuals feeling unwell or have symptoms are directed to stay home. The City says it will continue to offer a flexible cancellation/refund policy for those who are unable to participate.

For refund inquiries, residents can call 403-309-8411 or email recreation@reddeer.ca
