Red Deer Catholic seeking feedback on new middle school-related boundary changes

Feb 5, 2022 | 11:52 AM

Red Deer Catholic Regional Schools is hosting two virtual engagement sessions for those interested in giving feedback on boundary developments related to a new middle school in the city’s north.

Construction on St. Lorenzo Ruiz Middle School is slated to begin later this month, with completion scheduled for June 2023.

Recnfiguration of middle school boundaries needs to occur in the meantime to ensure all schools are operating at viable capacity levels.

“The (division) administration also took this opportunity to make minor adjustments to some elementary school boundaries to increase utilization rates and make the transition to middle school smoother,” the division says.

“The administration developed and evaluated multiple scenarios, collected feedback from trustees and school-based administrators. After this boundary development plan was provided, viable options that came to the forefront were presented to the Board of Trustees.”

Sessions are scheduled for February 8 and 10 for all division schools, but specifically those located within Red Deer and impacted by boundary changes.

• Tuesday, February 8 – (Most likely impacted schools): Father Henri Voisin School, St. Elizabeth Seton School, and current Grade 6 and 7 families from St. Francis of Assisi School.

• Thursday, February 10 – (Most likely impacted schools): St. Teresa of Avila School, Holy Family School and current Grade 6 and 7 families from St. Thomas Aquinas School.

Parents should stay tuned for more information being sent out on how to register.

Feedback from the sessions will be gathered and presented along with a recommendation to the board of trustees at its regular meeting in March. Implementation will occur in September 2023.
