The Red Deer Rebels three game winning streak over the past week came to an end in Medicine Hat Sunday night, losing 3-2 to the Tigers.

Medicine Hat got on the board first when Red Deer native Noah Danielson scored on Rebels netminder Connor Ungar at 3:14 to put the Tigers up 1-0. It was Danielson’s 10th goal of the season with Brendan Lee and Daniel Baker assisting on the play.

It was the only goal of the first period, with Medicine Hat outshooting Red Deer 10-7 after 20 minutes.

Red Deer hit the scoreboard in the second period though when Arshdeep Bains notched his 20th goal of the season, beating Tigers goalie Beckett Langkow at 8:14, with assists coming from Jackson van de Leest and Kyle Masters to tie the game 1-1.

The Rebels would then take the lead at 12:40 when Liam Keeler scored his 20th goal of the season, on the power play, following a five minute cross checking major and game misconduct to Medicine Hat’s Bogdans Hodass. Christoffer Sedoff and Kalan Lind assisted on the goal which put the Rebels up 2-1.

Red Deer outshot Medicine Hat 17-15 in the second period for a two-period total of 25-24 in favour of the Tigers after 40 minutes.

Medicine Hat tied it back up at 2-2 in the third period when Logan Barlage scored 11th goal of the season at 4:17, with Daniel Baker assisting on the play.

The Tigers would take the lead at 9:56, however, when Logan Barlage scored his 12th goal of the season and second of the game to put the home team up 3-2. It turned out to be the eventual game winner.

The Rebels pulled Connor Ungar from the net at 18:38 to add the extra attacker, but they were unable to score.

Red Deer outshot Medicine Hat 11-3 in the third period, for a three period total of 35-28 in favour of the Rebels.

Red Deer went 1 for 2 on the power play, while Medicine Hat went 1 for 1.

The Rebels Arshdeep Bains was named the game’s third star, while the Tigers Daniel Baker was named second star of the night. Medicine Hat’s Logan Barlage was chosen as the game’s first star.

The loss drops the Rebels record to 27-13-2-1 with 57 points and second place in the WHL’s Central Division. The Tigers, meanwhile, improve to 9-26-3-1 with 22 points, and sixth place in the Central Division.

Red Deer’s next game is Friday, Feb. 4, 7 p.m. at the Art Hauser Centre in Prince Albert, SK against the Raiders. It’s the first game of a three game road trip for the Rebels beginning this week.
