One Day Challenge brings in record sales total of $69,805

The Central Alberta Child Advocacy Centre (CACAC) held its fourth One Day Challenge on Jan. 20 – an initiative to recognize the children supported by the Centre by selling the same number of lottery ticket packages as children served. This year’s challenge was their biggest yet with a goal of 1,973 ticket packages.

Proceeds go towards the CACAC 50/50 Cash Lottery. Since Jan. 14, the CACAC sold $69,805 worth of tickets; the largest sales total that the One Day Challenge has ever brought in.

“One Day, One Child, One Ticket – One Community. It has been incredible to watch our community grow alongside us in the past four years, and their support this year was like no other,” said Alyssa Barthel, CACAC Director of Community Development.

“This year was an extremely large goal for us; 1,973 ticket packages is no small feat. We knew this would be difficult to achieve – but we had to stand by our “why” for this challenge: to represent every child and youth we have supported,” added Barthel.

“And although we didn’t hit that number completely, we were able to achieve something more. Not only were we able to achieve our highest sales for our ODC, more importantly, we were able to create more awareness on the issue of child abuse, conversations on the crucial support CACAC provides to our community, and the role we all play in keeping our children safe. Thank you to each of you who took part and for making this our most successful challenge yet,” she exclaimed.

The CACAC thanks its volunteers who spent the day helping to achieve the goal. They also acknowledge that many schools, businesses, and organizations took the challenge by purchasing ticket packages and challenging other groups to do the same. They would also like to thank their many media partners for getting the message out and ensuring coverage for this event, including Pattison Media (Big 105.5, 106.7 Rewind Radio, and rdnewsNOW).

“Our community came together for one reason – our kids,” said Barthel.

Finally, the CACAC extends a heartfelt thank you to the entire Alberta community who took the Challenge and purchased their 50/50 tickets in support.

“You have truly made a difference,” said the CACAC in a statement.

“This year’s One Day Challenge was, among other things, exceptionally heartwarming. It was inspiring to see so many volunteers, schools, businesses, and people take on the challenge. We really couldn’t have done any of this without you all, and kudos to everyone for their hard work on this,” said Mark Jones, CEO of CACAC.

“We are humbled by the community response, and we’re excited for future events,” added Jones. “This means the world to those kids, and seeing the smiles on their faces makes everything worthwhile. Thank you all for a successful One Day Challenge!”

While the One Day Challenge may be over, it’s not too late to still purchase tickets as the CACAC 50/50 Cash Lottery Deadline is Feb. 3.

Ticket Packages start at $10 with select ticket packages already sold out and others selling fast. To enter online and for more information, those interested can visit the lottery website: cacac5050.ca or call 587-272-2233.

The CACAC is a not-for-profit organization focused on the protection and recovery of children from abuse. The organization works in a collaborative partnership with the Central Region Children’s Services, Alberta Health Services, Alberta Justice, Alberta Education, the Central Alberta Sexual Assault Support Centre and the RCMP.

The CACAC 50/50 Cash Lottery draw is set to take place Feb. 9.
