Red Deer Festival of the Performing Arts to hit the stage in April

Jan 20, 2022 | 9:57 AM

Curtains are going up for the annual spring Red Deer Festival of the Performing Arts (RDFPA) in April of 2022.

Organizers say plans are underway for an in-person festival, featuring professional adjudicators to encourage and provide feedback on live student performances. Along with over $10,000 in existing awards and bursaries, the Festival is pleased to offer Young Musician’s Education Awards for the first time to particularly dedicated youth performers.

Sunnybrook United Church will be the location for classes in voice, guitar, choir, and speech arts from April 4-7. The Red Deer Polytechnic (RDP) Arts Centre will host classes in piano, musical theatre, band, strings, woodwinds and brass from April 26-30.

In order to ensure the health and safety of all, competitors, spectators, staff and volunteers will be required to meet the requirements of the Restrictions Exemption Program. Should public health restrictions further limit in-person gatherings, the Red Deer Festival of Performing Arts is prepared to move the event to a virtual format, as in 2021’s successful event.
