RDP extends online learning to Feb. 27

Jan 19, 2022 | 4:56 PM

Red Deer Polytechnic is keeping most students out of the classroom until at least Feb. 27.

Announced in December, the school was to begin its winter term online, with a plan to return to campus Jan. 24.

“By sharing this announcement now, it provides our students and employees with the opportunity to plan as best they can, given the dynamic situation we all find ourselves within,” says Kylie Thomas, Vice President Academic and Provost.

“I appreciate the continued dedication shown by our faculty and staff as they support our learners each day. We will continue to provide high-quality learning experiences for our students, both online and in person, to help them achieve their educational goals.”

Adds Jim Brinkhurst, RDP interim president, it is still anticipated that a return to in-person learning will occur prior to the end of the term.

Exceptions where learning outcomes require in-person engagement, including shops, labs, practicums and clinical placements, are as follows:

  • Apprenticeship (Shops)
  • Animation and Visual Effects
  • Bachelor of Science, Nursing (Clinical Placements)
  • Health Care Aide (Labs at RDP’s downtown campus in Millennium Centre)
  • Medical Lab Assistant (Labs)
  • Practical Nurse (Clinical Placements)
  • Welding (Testing)
  • CPR Training
  • Visual Art

Several other Alberta institutions, such as the University of Alberta, University of Calgary, and University of Lethbridge, announced an extension of online learning last week.
