Hospice Society raising $150,000 for new resident beds

The Red Deer Hospice Society’s latest fundraising campaign is starting off with a generous donation.

The society is hoping to raise $150,000 to purchase 10 new resident beds, with the Red Deer Twilight Homes Foundation kicking things off with a $15,000 contribution.

Replacement of the beds was identified as a need last year after years of being well-utilized.

“Whether it’s raising the back rest so a resident can chat with others comfortably or raising the feet to reduce swelling, the mechanical functions of the bed and a supportive mattress are essential to maintain the best quality of life for residents,” shared Jerri Taylor, Executive Director with the Red Deer Hospice Society.

“With ten beds to replace and a wish for the addition of a cuddle bed to accommodate loved ones when requested, the cost of replacing the resident beds will be over $150,000 to Hospice over the next year.”

Paul Gowans, chair of the foundation, said they were quick to offer support.

“As one of the founding donors of the original hospice build, it was important to us to invest in equipment that allows Hospice to continue to provide their excellent quality of care,” said Gowans. “We are proud to invest in the future of hospice and donate $15,000 towards the purchase of resident beds.”
