Average rents in Red Deer slightly higher than last year

Average rent for all property types in Red Deer was up in December to $1,112 per month, from $1,044 per month in December 2020.

That according to authors of the latest National Rent Report, which also noted the average rent in Alberta declined from $1,244 per month in Q4 2020 to $1,233 per month in Q4 2021 — an annual decline of less than one per cent.

Officials add that the average rent for condo rentals and apartments in Alberta has basically remained unchanged since 2019, moving from $1,188 per month in 2019, to $1,219 per month in 2020, to $1,199 per month in 2021.

Elsewhere in Alberta, Calgary placed 25th on the list of 35 Canadian cities included in last month’s report.

The average rent for a one-bedroom unit in Calgary last month was $1,221, while a two-bedroom unit rented for an average of $1,516.

Fort McMurray placed 28th on the list, with an average rent of $1,098 per month, while a two-bedroom rented for an average of $1,303.

Edmonton placed 30th on the list, with one bedroom units renting for an average of $1,026 per month in December, while a two-bedroom rented for an average of $1,258.

Lethbridge placed 31st on the list, with a one bedroom unit renting for an average of $994 per month in December, while a two-bedroom rented for an average of $1,180.

Meanwhile, Lloydminster, AB placed 35th on the list with an average rent of $751 per month in December. Two-bedroom units rented for an average of $855 per month in the border city.

Topping the list once again with the highest average rents in the country last month, was Vancouver.

Average rent for a one-bedroom unit in the west coast city in December was $2,176 per month, while a two-bedroom unit rented for an average of $2,983 per month.
