Central Alberta Child Advocacy Centre: One Day Challenge

Jan 15, 2022 | 10:47 AM

The Central Alberta Child Advocacy Centre (CACAC) One Day Challenge is back and with their biggest goal yet.

Every year the CACAC hosts the challenge, with the goal of selling one 50/50 Cash Lottery ticket package for every child, youth, and family that the organization has helped.

Taking place on Jan. 20, the goal this year is to sell 1,973 tickets. With last year’s goal of 1,301 tickets, the new target shows an increase of over 600 children, youth, and families supported.

“COVID-19 made an already bad situation worse for many families in Central Alberta, making this the CACAC’s most difficult year to date, with some of the most complicated cases they’ve seen. The need for the services and programs that the CACAC provides is growing,” the non-profit organization stated in a release.

“Here we are, for our fourth One Day Challenge, and we couldn’t be more excited. Each year the Challenge goal grows as the number of children we support increases. Last year, our incredible community helped us reach and even surpass our goal of 1,301, and we are hoping to do the same this year,” said CEO Mark Jones.

“The One Day Challenge helps shed light on all the children and families we have supported since our inception, while helping to ensure that we are there for those who need us tomorrow. The proceeds from the CACAC 50/50 Cash Lottery help fund our initiatives and programs so we can continue to help change the way Central Alberta responds to child abuse.”

The CACAC is a not-for-profit organization focused on the protection and recovery of children. The organization works in a collaborative partnership with the Central Region Children’s Services, Alberta Health Services, Alberta Justice, Alberta Education, the Central Alberta Sexual Assault Support Centre and the RCMP.

Tickets start at $10 and can be bought at cacac5050.ca or by phone at 587-272-2233. A 50-ticket package is also available for $75. The 50/50 is already 70 per cent sold out.

The public can also support the cause on social media platforms by using the custom One Day Challenge Facebook frame and using the hashtag #CACACOneDayChallenge.
