Red Deer’s record active case count continues rise

CENTRAL ZONE

Red Deer has a record 1,051 active cases of COVID-19, up 49 from Monday, with 91 new cases being reported in the last day.

With weekend numbers rolling in yesterday, the city surpassed its previous record high of 915 active cases, set Sept. 27, 2021 at the height of the fourth wave.

Meantime, recoveries in Red Deer rose by 42 to 9,624 in the last day.

Red Deer’s death toll stemming from COVID-19 is 84, with that total unchanged since Dec. 7.

The Central Zone as a whole has 3,302 active cases as of Monday, up 98 in the last day.

There are 85 hospitalizations, up three, and nine people receiving intensive care at Red Deer Regional Hospital, up one.

Central Zone has recorded 420 deaths, including zero reported in the last day.

PROVINCIAL NUMBERS

The active caseload is now 58,613, up 1,281 from Monday. This with the province adding 4,704 new cases of COVID-19 in the last 24 hours.

There were 12,201 cases conducted in the past day, for one-day and seven-day positivity rates over 38 per cent.

There are now 7,886 active cases which are variants.

A total of 15,221 recorded cases are confirmed to be the Omicron variant, with 730 recorded in Central Zone, 7,654 in Calgary Zone, 5,658 in Edmonton Zone, 814 in North Zone, and 330 in South Zone.

There are 708 people currently in hospital with COVID-19, up 73 from Monday, with 80 of those patients in ICU, up eight in the last day. ICU admissions increased by eight over the recent three-day weekend reporting window.

There have been eight additional deaths reported to Alberta Health in the last 24 hours, bringing the province’s death toll from the virus now to 3,352.

VACCINATIONS

Alberta has delivered 7,927,682 vaccine doses as of Jan. 10, up 26,951 in the last day.

Of the 5+ population, 84.9 per cent has received at least one dose (79.7% total population), while 73.2 per cent is now fully vaccinated (73.2% total population).

A total of 1,173,993 booster (third) shots have been administered. This means 28.3 per cent of the eligible population has received a booster, while 26.6 of all Albertans have their booster.

In Red Deer, 77,633 (77.3% eligible/73.0% total population) people have received at least one dose, up 76.
