AHS offering online sessions to help seniors stay strong and healthy

Jan 5, 2022 | 3:25 PM

Local residents interested in learning practical ways to stay strong and healthy while aging are invited to attend free online workshops offered by Alberta Health Services’ registered dietitians and health educators.

Life changes as we age, as do the needs of our bodies. Learning different strategies to stay healthy throughout aging improves one’s health. This free session will guide participants through a variety of topics, including nutrition, staying active, and different social activities that can help them stay healthy as they age.

Those interested can join virtually with a computer, a tablet or a phone.

The class is engaging, and participants can attend alone, with a loved one or a support person. Participants are encouraged to wear comfortable clothes and be prepared to move throughout the workshop, and use space with room to move, if possible.

Participants will learn:

  • How food can help maintain strength.
  • Staying active while aging and the four key pillars of activity.
  • Tips to make meals easier.
  • The importance of social connection.

Staying Strong and Healthy as We Age will be held via Zoom on Jan. 10, 24, Feb. 11 and 28 from 9 a.m. to 11:30 a.m.

Registration is required as dates and times are subject to change. For more information and to register to attend, please call the Alberta Healthy Living Program at 1-877-314-6997. You will receive your Zoom link when you register.
