Dec 29, 2021 | 5:15 PM

The Western Hockey League announced on Wednesday the postponement of four WHL Regular Season games to be hosted in Brandon or Winnipeg between Saturday, Jan. 1 and Saturday, Jan. 8 due to capacity restrictions in place in the province of Manitoba.

The WHL Regular Season game originally scheduled for Saturday, Jan. 1 between Red Deer and Brandon will now be played on Monday, Feb. 7.

The following WHL Regular Season games have been postponed and will be rescheduled at a later date:

  • Monday, Jan. 3 – Moose Jaw at Winnipeg
  • Friday, Jan. 7 – Calgary at Brandon
  • Saturday, Jan. 8 – Calgary at Winnipeg

Ticket holders for all postponed games are encouraged to hold on to their tickets and await further information from the host Club ticket office.

Earlier on Wednesday, the WHL announced the postponement of Wednesday night’s WHL Regular Season Game between the Portland Winterhawks and Tri-City Americans due to goaltenders on both Clubs entering WHL COVID-19 Protocols and sustaining injuries.

Officials say the WHL is working in consultation with the WHL Chief Medical Officer regarding the players entered into WHL COVID-19 Protocols. The WHL is expected to provide further information when it is available.

Information regarding the rescheduling of Wednesday night’s game will be provided at a later date.

Officials say the health and safety of all WHL participants is the top priority for the WHL. However, in order to reduce the risk of exposure to and transmission of COVID-19, the WHL requires all WHL roster players, hockey operations staff, and other team and League office personnel to be fully vaccinated against COVID-19 with a Health Canada approved vaccine.

In accordance with WHL policy, the WHL will not be providing comment or identifying individuals concerned.
