Red Deer with 95 active cases of COVID-19

Alberta Health is reporting 95 active cases of COVID-19 in Red Deer, up six from Friday.

This brings the total number of coronavirus cases identified in the city since the start of the pandemic to 9,549 – an increase of 37 from Friday. Recoveries meanwhile, increased by 31 over the past three days to 9,370.

Red Deer’s active case rate per 100k is currently 89.3, which compares to a rate of 169.5 in Calgary, 96.6 in Edmonton, and 83.5 in Lethbridge.

The virus’ death toll in Red Deer remains at 84, with the last one reported Dec. 7.

CENTRAL ZONE

There are 492 active cases of COVID-19 in the Alberta Health Services (AHS) Central Zone, down one from Friday.

The zone currently has 60 residents in hospital with COVID-19, down three from Friday, with seven of those patients receiving intensive care at Red Deer Regional Hospital, up one from Friday.

There have now been 412 COVID-related deaths in the Central Zone, up three from Friday.

Elsewhere throughout the province, there are 2,924 active cases of COVID-19 in the Calgary Zone, 1,630 cases in the Edmonton Zone, 380 in the North Zone, 212 in the South Zone, and 14 additional cases in unconfirmed locations.

PROVINCIAL NUMBERS

Across Alberta, another 1,925 new cases of COVID-19 were announced on Monday (627 Dec. 17, 721 Dec. 18, and 577 Dec. 19).

This brings the total number of active cases in the province now to 5,652 – up 1,221 from Friday.

With 25,277 tests conducted over the past three days, the province’s test positivity rate is currently 7.6 per cent.

There are 3,893 active variant cases in the province, making up 68.8 per cent of all active cases.

324 Albertans are currently in hospital with COVID-19, down 20 from Friday, with 69 of those patients in ICU, up one from Friday.

Six new virus-related deaths have also been reported, bringing the virus’ death toll in our province to 3,292.

VACCINATIONS

Alberta has delivered 7,323,559 vaccine doses as of Dec. 19, up 72,075 in the past three days.

Of the 5+ population, 83.6 per cent has received at least one dose (78.6% total population), while 77.2 per cent is now fully vaccinated (72.5% total population).

A total of 649,557 booster (third) shots have been administered, up 54,827.

*Local numbers below now reflect percentages based on the number of people in Red Deer who are 5+, which recently changed from 12+, therefore numbers may be lower than they had been; the Government of Alberta says 100,446 people in Red Deer are eligible for vaccination, with a population of 106,420.

In Red Deer, 76,546 (76.2% eligible/71.9% total population) people have received at least one dose, up 185 from Friday.

Meanwhile, 71,814 (71.4% eligible/67.4% total population) residents are fully vaccinated, up 134 from Friday.
