The Red Deer Rebels have signed another player selected in the recent 2021 WHL Prospects Draft.

On Thursday, the club announced it had signed 40th overall pick, goaltender Chase Wutzke.

A native of Debden, Saskatchewan, Wutzke currently plays in net with the Saskatoon Contacts U18 AAA team in the Saskatchewan Male AAA Hockey League.

“Chase is a goalie who has really risen since the WHL Cup, he’s been a difference maker for the Contacts,” said Rebels Associate General Manager Shaun Sutter. “He’s been their starting goalie and has been winning games for them. On most nights he’s their best player. When you watch him, as a goalie you really trust him and really like his battle (level). He gives his team a chance to win every single night.”

At 6’1″ and 143 pounds, the netminder has nine wins in 15 appearances this season, alongside a 2.50 GAA and .913 SV%.

He also suited up for Team Saskatchewan at the 2021 WHL Cup in Red Deer.

Earlier this week, the Rebels announced they had signed 5th overall pick, Ollie Josephson.
