$442,000 in pre-approved projects

Sylvan Lake’s 2022 interim budget approved

Sylvan Lake town council has approved its 2022 interim operating budget.

While the 2022 Operating and Capital Budgets will likely be officially passed on Feb. 14, 2022, Town officials say the interim budget approved on Monday allows council to operate for the year until the final budgets are set.

Four projects totalling $442,000 listed for pre-budget approval are:

  • Strategic Planning: $20,000
  • Alberta First Responders Radio Communications System: $292,000
  • Parks Equipment: $30,000
  • Washroom Railings: $100,000

For Mayor Megan Hanson, the interim budget focuses on time sensitive projects like fixing the washroom railing on the lakefront.

In addition to parks equipment, the town also acknowledged a $70,000 sponsorship for spray parks and playgrounds.

The most important on the list, said Mayor Hanson, however, is council’s strategic planning initiatives.

“That really sets our direction for the next four years and where our team would like to go, and what projects we think we can undertake and what kind of benefits we can bring back to residents,” she said.

The mayor confirmed council will be in budget deliberations this Saturday, Dec. 18, before they will be shared with the public for feedback on January 10.
