Red Deer at 89 active COVID cases, Alberta up to 60 cases of Omicron

On Wednesday, Alberta is reporting 456 new COVID cases across the province.

Meantime, the active caseload is now 4,082, up 66. Of those, 3,103 are variants of concern, and there have now been 60 recorded cases of the Omicron variant.

The province did 10,100 tests in the last day, with a seven-day positivity rate of 4.01 per cent.

There are 362 people in hospital, down four in one day, and ICU admissions are up one to 71.

There were three deaths reported in the last day for a pandemic total of 3,286.

CENTRAL ZONE

Red Deer now has 89 active cases of COVID-19, down one from Tuesday.

Meantime, recoveries in Red Deer rose six to 9,326 as the total number of COVID-19 cases attributed to Red Deer rose by just five in the last day to 9,499.

Red Deer’s death toll stemming from COVID-19 is 84, with none reported today.

The Central Zone as a whole has 504 active cases as of Wednesday, down seven in the last day. That’s compared to 1,766 in Calgary Zone and 1,221 in Edmonton Zone.

There are 69 hospitalizations in our zone, up one, and nine people are receiving intensive care at Red Deer Regional Hospital, the same as yesterday.

Central Zone has recorded 410 deaths, including zero in the last day.

VACCINATIONS

Alberta has delivered 7,194,947 vaccine doses as of Dec. 15, up 24,300 in the last day.

Of the 5+ population, 83.2 per cent has received at least one dose (78.2% total population), while 77.0 per cent is now fully vaccinated (72.3% total population).

A total of 547,909 booster (third) shots have been administered, up 15,629.

*Local numbers below now reflect percentages based on the number of people in Red Deer who are 5+, which recently changed from 12+, therefore numbers may be lower than they had been; the Government of Alberta says 100,446 people in Red Deer are eligible for vaccination, with a population of 106,420.)

In Red Deer, 76,257 (75.9% eligible/71.7% total population) people have received at least one dose, up 51.

Meanwhile, 71,589 (71.3% eligible/67.3% total population) residents are fully vaccinated, up 56.
