Red Deer with 90 active cases of COVID-19

Alberta Health is reporting 90 active cases of COVID-19 in Red Deer, down three from Monday.

That brings the total number of coronavirus cases identified in Red Deer since the start of the pandemic to 9,494 – up four from Monday. Recoveries meanwhile, increased by seven over the past day to 9,320.

Red Deer’s active case rate per 100k is currently 84.6, which compares to a rate of 89.5 in Calgary, 62.6 in Edmonton, and 87.4 in Lethbridge.

The number of COVID-19 related deaths in Red Deer remains unchanged at 84, with the last one reported Dec. 7.

CENTRAL ZONE

There are 511 active cases of COVID-19 in the Alberta Health Services (AHS) Central Zone, down 14 from Monday.

The zone currently has 68 individuals in hospital with COVID-19, up two from Monday, with nine of those patients receiving intensive care at Red Deer Regional Hospital Centre, up one from the day before.

The number of COVID related deaths in Central Zone is 410, up three from Monday.

Elsewhere, there are 1,691 active cases of COVID-19 in the Calgary Zone, 1,198 in the Edmonton Zone, 382 in the North Zone, 229 in the South Zone, and five additional cases in unconfirmed locations.

PROVINCIAL NUMBERS

Alberta Health reported 250 new cases of COVID-19 on Tuesday, bringing the total number of active cases in the province now to 4,016.

The number of active variant cases is 3,279 or 81.6 per cent of all active cases.

With 6,419 tests conducted over the past 24 hours, the province’s test positivity rate is roughly 3.8 per cent.

There are 366 Albertans currently in hospital with COVID-19, up nine from Monday, with 70 of those patients in ICU, up two from the day before.

There have been eight additional deaths reported to Alberta Health in the last 24 hours, bringing the virus’ death toll in the province to 3,283.

VACCINATIONS

In Alberta, 7,170,647 doses of COVID-19 vaccine have now been administered as of the end of Dec. 13. That’s up 23,317 over the past day.

Of the 5+ population, 83.1 per cent has received at least one dose (78.1% total population), while 76.9 per cent of the 5+ population is now fully vaccinated (72.2% total population).

532,280 Albertans have received a third dose, up 17,531.

*Local numbers below now reflect percentages based on the number of people in Red Deer who are 5+, which recently changed from 12+, therefore numbers may be lower than they had been; the Government of Alberta says 100,446 people in Red Deer are eligible for vaccination, with a population of 106,420.)

In Red Deer, 76,206 (75.8% eligible/71.6% total population) people have received at least one dose, up 60 over the past day.

Meanwhile, 71,533 (71.2% eligible/67.2% total population) residents are fully vaccinated, up 46 from Monday.
