Red Deer’s top cop saying goodbye after 29-year career

Dec 13, 2021 | 10:55 AM

Red Deer’s top cop is retiring.

Superintendent Gerald Grobmeier has spent the last six years of his 29-year career in Red Deer, including the last two years in charge.

“I am proud to have seen the Red Deer detachment become a leader in the district, in the division and nationally,” said Superintendent Grobmeier. “I am honoured to have served this wonderful community, and it has been a pleasure for my family and I to call Red Deer home.”

In his time here, Grobmeier spearheaded the PINPOINT program, a crime reduction initiative designed to target prolific and repeat offenders.

He also oversaw the launch of CAPTURE, a program which allows residents and business to register security cameras, as well as Garage529, a bike registry to deter bike theft and ensure any that are stolen can be recovered and returned.

“Thank you, Superintendent Grobmeier, for your leadership and service to our community,” said Ken McMullen, General Manager of Development and Protective Services for The City. “We are grateful for your dedication to Red Deer, working closely with the City and community partners to address the needs of our citizens and businesses.”

An Interim Officer in Charge will be announced by RCMP shortly, while a permanent Officer in Charge is selected.
