Town of Ponoka reminds residents to clear sidewalks bordering property

Dec 10, 2021 | 1:40 PM

The Town of Ponoka snow and ice control crews are busy sanding and salting roadways throughout the community today.

Crews will also be doing the same for sidewalks adjacent to Town-owned properties, walking trails in Town parks and throughout the trail system.

The Town reminds citizens to help keep the community safe by ensuring sidewalks bordering personal property are clear of ice and snow to protect the safety and well-being of neighbors and other citizens of Ponoka.

Keeping sidewalks that border personal property clear of ice and snow is also a requirement under the Town of Ponoka Community Standards Bylaw #384-17 and can result in fines.

Town winter operations crews work in conjunction with the Alberta Ministry of Transportation, which is responsible for snow and ice control on Highways 2A and 53 in Ponoka.

The Town of Ponoka Snow and Ice Control Policy can be viewed on the Town website.

To report an icy intersection, back alley, or sidewalk that may need attention, citizens can submit an online request on the Town website by filling out the form. Town staff can also fill out the form for residents by calling the Town Office at 403-783-4431.
