Red Deer up to 91 active cases of COVID-19

Red Deer now sits at 91 active cases of COVID-19, up five from Thursday, and up one from a week ago.

Meantime, the city’s total number of recorded cases is up nine to 9,472 in the last day, while recoveries are up four to 9,297.

Red Deer’s death toll stemming from COVID-19 is 84, with none reported today.

LOOK-BACK: On this day one year ago, there were 895 total cases of COVID-19 recorded in the city (+231 over the previous week), with 386 active cases (+97) and zero deaths.

The Central Zone as a whole has 520 active cases as of Friday, up 15 from Thursday. There are 69 hospitalizations, up two, with seven people receiving intensive care at Red Deer Regional Hospital, up one.

The Central Zone has had 405 deaths linked to COVID-19, with none reported today.

The zone’s one-day positivity rate for Dec. 9 is 7.65 per cent with 706 tests done.

PROVINCIAL NUMBERS

Across Alberta, another 287 new cases of COVID-19 were announced Friday out of 9,139 tests.

That makes for a seven-day positivity rate of 3.75 per cent. Active cases across the province are down 35 to 4,059.

Of those, 3,359 are variants of concern, and there have now been 23 recorded cases of the Omicron variant, up four.

Of today’s new cases…

-39.18 per cent are completely vaccinated
-3.09 per cent are partially vaccinated
-57.73 per cent are unvaccinated

There are 367 Albertans hospitalized due to the virus, down one, including 71 in intensive care, up one.

The province’s death toll is now listed as 3,272, meaning one more death has been reported since yesterday.

VACCINATIONS

Alberta has delivered 7,094,431 vaccine doses as of Dec. 9, up 22,076 in the last day.

Of the 5+ population, 82.7 per cent has received at least one dose (77.6% total population), while 76.7 per cent is now fully vaccinated (72.0% total population).

A total of 482,534 booster (third) shots have been administered, up 15,182.
