Exhibition schedule for upcoming World Juniors unveiled, tickets available for Rivalry Series

The IIHF World Junior Championship begins on Boxing Day, but there is a full slate of pre-tournament matchups, announced Thursday by Hockey Canada.

The exhibition schedule is as follows:

Dec. 19 | Switzerland vs. Canada | Peavey Mart Centrium | Red Deer

Dec. 19 | Germany vs. Russia | Downtown Community Arena | Edmonton

Dec. 20 | Slovakia vs. Finland | Peavey Mart Centrium | Red Deer

Dec. 20 | Sweden vs. Canada | Peavey Mart Centrium | Red Deer

Dec. 20 | United States vs. Czech Republic | Gary W. Harris Canada Games Centre | Red Deer

Dec. 21 | Germany vs. Switzerland | Gary W. Harris Canada Games Centre | Red Deer

Dec. 21 | Austria vs. Slovakia | Peavey Mart Centrium | Red Deer

Dec. 22 | Russia vs. Canada | Rogers Place | Edmonton

Dec. 22 | Finland vs. United States | Rogers Place | Edmonton

Dec. 23 | Czech Republic vs. Switzerland | Gary W. Harris Canada Games Centre | Red Deer

Dec. 23 | Austria vs. Sweden | Peavey Mart Centrium | Red Deer

Starting Dec. 26, the 10 teams will be in two groups — Red Deer will host preliminary-round play for Sweden, Russia, Slovakia, the U.S.A, and Switzerland, while Edmonton gets Canada, Germany, Finland, the Czech Republic, and Austria.

Red Deer will also host two quarter-finals, and the best-of-three relegation round, for a total of 16 games.

Simultaneously, Hockey Canada has announced single-game ticket availability for the 2022 women’s Rivalry Series, taking place Jan. 3 and 6, also in Red Deer and Edmonton.

On Monday, Jan. 3, Canada and the U.S.A will face off at Rogers Place, and then have the rematch on Jan. 6 at the Peavey Mart Centrium.

Canada has a 2-1-1 record in the series this year, while the U.S. is 2-2-0. Games have already taken place in Allentown, Hartford, Kingston and Ottawa, with pre-Christmas games in St. Louis and Minnesota.
