COVID cases edge downward provincially

CENTRAL ZONE

Red Deer has 86 active cases of COVID-19, up five from Wednesday.

Meantime, recoveries in Red Deer rose by two to 9,293 as the total number of COVID-19 cases attributed to Red Deer rose by six to 9,463.

Red Deer’s death toll stemming from COVID-19 is now 84, down one due to a data/information correction by Alberta Health.

The Central Zone as a whole has 505 active cases as of Thursday, up eight in the last day.

There are 67 hospitalizations, down one, and six people receiving intensive care at Red Deer Regional Hospital, down one.

Central Zone has recorded 405 deaths, again, down one.

PROVINCIAL NUMBERS

The active caseload is now 4,094, down 46 from Wednesday. This with the province adding 333 new cases of COVID-19 in the last 24 hours.

Of the active cases, 19 are of the Omicron variant, up two, and 3,176 total are one variant or another.

With 10,044 tests conducted over the past 24 hours, the seven-day positivity rate is 3.80 per cent.

There are 368 people currently in hospital with COVID-19, down five from Wednesday, with 70 of those patients in ICU, up two from yesterday.

The provincial death toll went down one today due to data/information correction by Alberta Health, leaving the total at 3,271.

VACCINATIONS

Alberta has delivered 7,072,355 vaccine doses as of Dec. 8, up 20,197 in the last day.

Of the 5+ population, 82.5 per cent has received at least one dose (77.5% total population), while 76.6 per cent is now fully vaccinated (72.0% total population).

A total of 467,352 booster (third) shots have been administered, up 13,201.

*Local numbers below now reflect percentages based on the number of people in Red Deer who are 5+, which recently changed from 12+, therefore numbers may be lower than they had been; Government of Alberta uses a population of 106,420 for Red Deer; of those, 100,446 are eligible)

In Red Deer, 75,780 (75.4% eligible/71.2% total population) people have received at least one dose, up 82.

Meanwhile, 71,258 (70.9% eligible/66.96% total population) residents are fully vaccinated, up 58.
