Red Deer with 81 active cases of COVID-19

Alberta Health is reporting 81 active cases of COVID-19 in Red Deer, up five from Monday.

This brings the total number of coronavirus cases identified in the city since the start of the pandemic to 9,453 – up 13 from Monday. Recoveries, meanwhile, have increased by seven over the past day to 9,288.

Red Deer’s active case rate per 100k is now 76.1, which compares to a rate of 86.6 in Calgary, 59.2 in Edmonton, and 94.4 in Lethbridge.

One more COVID-related death has also been reported in Red Deer, bringing the virus’ death toll in our city to 84.

CENTRAL ZONE

There are 481 active cases of COVID-19 in Alberta Health Services (AHS) Central Zone, down 49 from Monday.

66 of those patients are currently in hospital, up two from Monday, with six receiving intensive care at Red Deer Regional Hospital Centre, up one from the day before.

Total virus-related deaths in the Central Zone is now 404, up two from Monday.

Elsewhere, the Calgary Zone currently has 1,671 active cases of COVID-19, while the Edmonton Zone has 1,169, the North Zone 504, the South Zone 273, and seven additional cases in unconfirmed locations.

PROVINCIAL NUMBERS

Alberta Health identified 240 new active cases of COVID-19 in the province on Tuesday, bringing the total number of active cases now to 4,105 – down 269 from Monday.

With 5,478 tests conducted over the past 24 hours, the province’s test positivity rate is roughly 4.3 per cent.

There are 3,376 active variant cases in the province or 82.2 per cent of all active cases.

There are 373 Albertans currently in hospital with COVID-19, up seven from Monday, with 76 of those patients in ICU, up four from the day before.

There have been five additional deaths reported to Alberta Health in the last 24 hours, bringing the virus’ death toll in Alberta to 3,268.

VACCINATIONS

In Alberta, 7,028,981 doses of COVID-19 vaccine have now been administered as of the end of Dec. 6. That’s up 29,693 over the past day.

Of the 5+ population, 82.3 per cent has received at least one dose (77.3% total population), while 76.5 per cent of the 5+ population is now fully vaccinated (71.9% total population).

438,580 Albertans have received a third dose.

In Red Deer, 75,608 (75.2% eligible/71.0% total population) people have received at least one dose, an increase of 107 from Monday.

Meanwhile, 71,140 (70.8% eligible/66.8% total population) residents are fully vaccinated, an increase of 68 from Monday.
