A trial date has been set for two people charged in a drug and stolen property investigation in Penhold this fall.

Kirk Clark, 35, of Red Deer, and Trevor Wayne Taylor, 42, of Lacombe, are both scheduled to go to trial on Feb. 28, 2022.

Clark faces two counts of stolen property exceeding $5000, possession of stolen property under $5000, two counts of failing to comply with a release order, two counts of possessing a controlled substance, resisting a peace officer and driving a motor vehicle while unauthorized and with no insurance.

Upon his arrest, RCMP say Clark also had three outstanding warrants on eight additional charges.

Taylor, meanwhile, faces two counts of possession of stolen property exceeding $5000, possession of stolen property under $5000 and two counts of possessing a controlled substance.

It was on Sept. 24 when the Southern Alberta District Crime Reduction Team (SADCRT), along with Innisfail RCMP detachment, arrested two males for allegedly possessing stolen property exceeding $5000, on outstanding warrants, and for possessing cocaine, fentanyl, and crystal meth.

The SADCRT, working in Innisfail, had observed a pick-up truck hauling a flat-deck trailer. Checks on it determined the trailer was stolen from Sylvan Lake.

Mounties say it was monitored as it pulled into a Penhold gas station, which is when RCMP entered and placed the driver under arrest.

Police say the suspect then attempted to flee by running out of the store, however, was apprehended a short distance away. A second suspect – a passenger in the pick-up, was arrested without incident.

RCMP say a Ford F350 stolen out of Penhold, the $20,000 trailer, hydraulic fittings, and a converted utility trailer containing unique tools worth $100,000 and stolen out of Innisfail, were recovered and returned to their owners.

Clark was remanded into custody at the time, while Taylor was released from custody on a promise to pay.
