Red Deer down to 76 active cases of COVID-19

PROVINCIAL NUMBERS

Over the past three days, Alberta Health confirmed a combined 788 new cases, with 349 on Friday, 252 on Saturday, and 187 on Sunday.

There are now 4,374 active cases, down 66 from Friday. Of those, 11 are the new Omicron variant, up seven from Friday — with eight in Calgary Zone, two in Edmonton Zone, and one in North Zone. There are a total of 3,368 active variant cases.

An average of 6,836 tests were conducted each day over the past three days. The seven-day positivity rate is currently 3.92 per cent, down from 4.48 per cent a week ago.

Provincially, 366 patients are hospitalized with COVID-19. Today’s new total includes 72 patients in ICU. (Hospitalization/vaccine data wasn’t readily available on Friday afternoon)

Of the 294 not in ICU, 171 are completely unvaccinated, 14 have received one dose, and 91 have two doses. Another 18 have had three doses.

Of the 72 in ICU, 52 are completely unvaccinated, two have one dose, and 16 have two doses. Another two have had three doses.

Since Friday’s update, there has sadly been five new deaths added to the provincial COVID-19 death toll, which stands at 3,263.

CENTRAL ZONE

Over the weekend, Red Deer added 23 cases, 37 recoveries and zero fatalities.

That leaves Red Deer with 76 active cases, down (net) 14 from Friday. That’s the lowest total since Aug. 12.

Red Deer has now recorded 9,440 total cases, 9,281 recoveries and 83 deaths, with none reported this weekend.

Red Deer’s active case rate is currently 71.4 per 100,000 people, compared to 89.4 for City of Calgary and 60.7 for City of Edmonton.

The entire Central Zone has 530 active cases as of Monday, down seven from Friday. There are 64 hospitalizations, down 10, and five people are receiving intensive care at Red Deer Regional Hospital, down one.

The zone has had 402 deaths linked to the virus, with two reported over the weekend — a male in his 60s who passed Nov. 30, and a femaler in her 50s who passed Dec. 5.

Central Zone’s one-day high for positivity rate over the weekend was 5.12 per cent with 625 tests conducted on Dec. 4. It reached as high 6.32 per cent with 854 tests on Dec. 3.

VACCINATIONS

In Alberta, 6,999,288 doses of COVID-19 vaccine have now been administered as of the end of Dec. 5. That’s up 49,967 over the weekend.

Of the 12+ population, 89.0 per cent has received at least one dose (77.2% total population), while 84.4 per cent of the 12+ population is now fully vaccinated (71.8% total population).

Taking into account 5-11-year-olds, 82.1 per cent of Alberta’s eligible population has received at least one dose, and 76.5 per cent of those eligible are fully vaccinated.

Again, taking into account 5-11-year-olds, 77.2 per cent of all Albertans have one dose, and 71.8 per cent of all Albertans have received two doses.

418,188 Albertans have received a third dose.

In Red Deer, 75,501 (75.2% eligible/70.9% total population) people have received at least one dose.

Meanwhile, 71,072 (70.8% eligible/66.8% total population) residents are fully vaccinated.

INFLUENZA

Alberta Health is reporting five total lab-confirmed cases of influenza. There is one case in Calgary Zone and four cases in Edmonton Zone. They are all Influenza A. There have been zero ICU admissions, and zero deaths.

A total of 977,359 doses of influenza vaccine have been administered this season, including 54,388 administered in the last seven days.
