Red Deer below 100 active cases of COVID for first time since August

Red Deer now sits at 90 active cases of COVID-19, down 10 from Thursday.

It’s the first time there’s been fewer than 100 active cases in the city since Aug. 16, 109 days ago.

The active case load was under 100 on that occasion from June 16 to Aug. 16, or 61 days. In that span, the lowest it reached was nine active cases on July 23.

Meantime, the city’s total number of recorded cases is up six to 9,417 in the last day, while recoveries are up 16 to 9,244.

Red Deer’s death toll stemming from COVID-19 is 83, with the last one reported Nov. 29.

LOOK-BACK: On this day one year ago, there were 664 total cases of COVID-19 recorded in the city (+202 over the previous week), with 289 active cases (+131) and zero deaths.

The Central Zone as a whole has 537 active cases as of Friday, down 30 from Thursday. There are 74 hospitalizations, down six, with six people receiving intensive care at Red Deer Regional Hospital, the same as yesterday.

The Central Zone has had 400 deaths linked to COVID-19, with none reported today.

The zone’s one-day positivity rate for Dec. 2 is 4.12 per cent with 825 tests done.

PROVINCIAL NUMBERS

Across Alberta, another 349 new cases of COVID-19 were announced Friday out of 9,694 tests.

That makes for a seven-day positivity rate of 4.15 per cent, down 0.10 from yesterday.

Active cases across the province are down 99 to 4,440. Of those, four are of the Omicron variant, the same number as yesterday, and there are 2,979 total active cases which are identified as variants.
