Last call for someone to buy Red Deer’s former ‘Scout Hut’

The City of Red Deer is putting out a final call for residents or businesses interested in relocating the former Scout Hut.

Also known as the Rover Cabin, the hut, which is located at 53 Street and 47 Avenue, is up for grabs as long as the buyer covers the cost of relocation and removal.

The structure has been deemed cost-prohibitive to maintain, and must be moved for the sake of another project.

The building is 400 square feet, and anyone interested should contact The City by Dec. 22, 2021. Removal must be completed by April 1, 2022.

According to The City, structural and Integrity assessments were conducted for the building and the reviews did not recommend preservation.

Constructed in 1937, the former one-room log cabin houses a stone fireplace, dirt floors, and evidence of past flood and fire damage. There is also a small shed addition badly damaged by fire which needs demolishing.
