Fire destroys mobile home in south Red Deer

Nov 27, 2021 | 1:24 PM

A Red Deer family lost their home Saturday morning due to fire.

Assistant Deputy Chief with Red Deer Emergency Services, Curtis Schaefer, says a 911 call came in at 9:30 a.m. about a mobile home on fire at Creekside Mobile Home Park (5029-34 Street).

The park is located just south of Red Deer Regional Hospital, overlooking Taylor Drive.

“When crews initially arrived on scene, there were large volumes of smoke and fire in the trailer,” Schaefer says. “No one was home, and no one was injured. There was also no damage to neighbouring trailers.”

One other trailer was evacuated due to smoke being blown in its direction, he adds. That family has since been allowed to return home.

It’s not yet known where in the home, or how the fire started, but Schaefer says it was very stubborn, especially the portion of the fire up in the structure’s roof.

The trailer, which was located right in the middle of the park, he says, is a complete write-off.

Four engines responded, plus one aerial crew, and an ambulance crew. In total, 23 firefighters were on scene, and the fire is knocked down.

The fire remains under investigation.
