Alberta RCMP Major Crimes Unit charge male with first-degree murder in Red Deer

A Drayton Valley man has been charged in the death of a Red Deer man earlier this month.

On Nov. 14, at 3:05 p.m., Red Deer RCMP received a request to attend a residence in the area of 58 Avenue and 69 Street in Red Deer to assist Emergency Medical Services with the sudden death of 37-year-old Dennis Anderson Edwards from Red Deer.

As a result of further investigation, Red Deer RCMP believed the death to be suspicious. The Alberta RCMP Major Crimes Unit then took over the investigation, with an autopsy completed by the Calgary Office of the Chief Medical Examiner.

On Nov. 23, the Alberta RCMP Major Crimes Unit obtained a warrant and arrested 29-year-old Jordan David Ruff of Drayton Valley for first-degree murder.

Ruff remains in custody awaiting a judicial hearing.

The Alberta RCMP Major Crimes Unit with the assistance of the Red Deer General Investigation Section, RCMP Forensic Identification Section and the RCMP Digital Forensic Services continue to investigate the circumstances surrounding the death.

As this matter is now before the courts, however, RCMP say no further information will be provided.
