The RDP Athletes of the Week are Tanya Disotell-Dunsmore and Patrik Toze.

Bachelor of Science Pre-Professional – Optometry (1st year)

Goaltender Tanya Disotell-Dunsmore made an impact in her first regular season start for the Red Deer Polytechnic Queens Hockey team. The athletic goalie from Cornwall made 25 saves in a 3-0 shutout win over the Olds College Broncos. The Bachelor of Science Pre-Professional – Optometry student played well positionally and set the tone early, making 11 saves in the first period alone. Disotell-Dunsmore effectively battled to find and cover loose pucks. The Broncos also had four power play opportunities, but they couldn’t solve the rookie goalkeeper. For her outstanding performance, Disotell-Dunsmore was named the North Star Sports Queens Player of the Game.

Business Administration General (5th year)

Outside hitter Patrik Toze had a strong weekend on the court, helping the Red Deer Polytechnic Kings Volleyball team earn a pair of wins over the Olds College Broncos. The fifth-year led both teams with 13 kills on Friday, which helped the Kings pick up a three set road victory (25-22, 25-20 and 25-20). The Business Administration General student also added three digs in the match.

Then on Saturday, the talented student-athlete from Australia contributed 12 kills, four digs, three stuff blocks, two assists and one ace while hitting for 0.417 per cent efficiency in a four set home victory (23-25, 25-20, 25-22 and 25-9). Toze has had a good start to the season and has played a key role in the Kings improving their undefeated record to 4-0. The Red Deer Polytechnic Kings are first in the Alberta Colleges Athletic Conference (ACAC) South Division standings.

The Kings Basketball team (2-2) will play the Medicine Hat College Rattlers (0-2) on the road. Red DeerPolytechnic guard Tyronn King has been a significant offensive contributor to his team over four games. The Legal Assistant student has averaged 31.3 points per game which ranks second in the league.

Queens Basketball | Sunday, November 28 | 4 pm | Gary W. Harris Canada Games Centre

The Red Deer Polytechnic Queens Basketball team (2-2) will tip-off against the Rattlers (0-2) in MedicineHat. Lauren France, a Bachelor of Arts Psychology student, sits tied for fourth in the league with 17.5 points per game. Stauffer’s Amy Szymanek ranks eighth in ACAC Women’s Basketball with 9.5 rebounds per contest.

Kings Hockey | Friday, November 26 | 7 pm | Gary W. Harris Canada Games Centre

The Red Deer Polytechnic Kings Hockey team (1-1-0-0) will host the SAIT Trojans (2-0-0-0) in their thirdregular season game of 16. Kings forwards Chance Longjohn and Ryley Smith share second spot in league points with four.

Queens Hockey | Friday, November 26 | 7 pm | SAIT

The Red Deer Polytechnic Queens Hockey team (1-1-0) will play the SAIT Trojans (0-2-0) in Calgary.Braxtyn Shawara sits tied for second in the ACAC with two goals. Rookie goaltender Tanya Disotell- Dunsmore leads the league with a 0.00 goals against average and 1.000 save percentage.

Kings Volleyball | Sunday, November 28 | 2 pm | Medicine Hat College

The undefeated Kings Volleyball team (4-0) will face the Medicine Hat College Rattlers (0-2). Over four matches, the Kings have won 12 sets and only dropped two. Outside hitter Patrik Toze has been efficient, ranking fourth in the league with a 0.465 hitting percentage. Collectively, the RDP Kings lead ACAC Men’s Volleyball with 2.50 service aces per set.

Queens Volleyball | Sunday, November 28 | 4 pm | Medicine Hat College

The first place Queens (4-0) will play the Rattlers (0-2) in a south division showdown. The Queens have not lost a single set this season. Bachelor of Education Elementary student Tess Pearman’s 3.44 kills per set ranks fifth in the league. Fifth-year Anna Carlson has been effective from the service line, averaging 0.92 aces per set for the Polytechnic, which is second in the ACAC.
