Nov 20, 2021 | 9:52 AM

The construction season is nearly over for workers in Ponoka, where numerous projects were completed this year.

That includes $1.5 million invested in roadway and sidewalk improvements alone, such as:

-Battle River Valley Trail extension

-Drainage rehabilitation on 64 Street (from 42-44 Avenue)

-Paving, patching and sealing on 50 Street from Hwy 53 to 48 Ave, intersection of 62 St. and 53 Ave., and multiple other locations

There were also exterior improvements started at the Ponoka Arena Complex, with work ongoing, and including:

-New silver tin cladding to replace the existing cladding that has reached the end of its life cycle

-Freshly painted exterior walls and doors to update and refresh the look of the facility

-Installing new eavestroughing for improved storm water management.

“As Mayor, I’m extremely happy with the large volume and quality of improvements that have been made this year in our community,” says Kevin Ferguson.

“Our annual roadway infrastructure improvements, along with the new park improvements and walking trail extensions are all important investments in our community that greatly increase quality of life for our citizens.”

Numerous other ameliorations were completed at Town parks and rec facilities, including:

-Arena Complex: new ice plant, plexiglass replacement, painting, board repairs, concrete slab repairs (arena remains open during ongoing work)

-Aquaplex: resurfaced pool deck, refurbished wading pool, new rooftop HVAC unit, new edging around main pool, deep tank and wading pool

-Old Hospital Rotary Park: completion of labyrinth, additional landscaping, two sheltered outdoor classroom areas and more

-Tractor Park: refurbished heritage tractors
