Three people from Red Deer face numerous charges following an incident with police on Nov. 13.

Wetaskiwin RCMP say it was about 11 p.m. that night when members observed a truck with a burnt out headlight travelling near Highway 2A and 36 Avenue in Wetaskiwin.

The officer lost sight of the vehicle, but continued to make patrols in an effort to locate it.

Shortly thereafter, it was found in the area of Township Road 460 and Highway 2A.

It was then determined that the vehicle had been stolen out of Red Deer. Next, it was followed at a distance with assistance from RCMP Police Dog Services and Edmonton Police Service Air 1 Helicopter.

The vehicle is said to have then stopped near the main terminal of Edmonton International Airport.

As police approached the vehicle, a suspect allegedly took a cab by force and deployed bear spray against the cab driver before fleeing in the vehicle.

Police say it was then driven towards police officers who were out of their vehicles, and did not stop. No officers were injured.

Another pursuit occurred, with Edmonton Police taking over as the chase bled into the city. EPS successfully stopped the cab using a spike belt.

Three suspects were apprehended and taken into custody before being turned over to RCMP.

“This was a situation where the actions of these suspects posed a risk to both the public and the police,” says Inspector Keith Durance, Officer in Charge of Wetaskiwin RCMP Detachment. “We are thankful we were able to stop further offences from occurring and successfully apprehend these individuals in partnership with the Edmonton Police Service.”

Joshua Martin William Howse, 33, of Red Deer, was charged with 19 offences, including:

· Possession of property over $5,000

· Flight from police (x2)

· Dangerous operation

· Assault peace officer with weapon (x3)

· Robbery with a weapon

Howse was remanded into custody, and is scheduled to appear in Wetaskiwin Provincial court on Nov. 30.

Lindsey Rae Mazzei, 39, of Red Deer, was charged with 15 offences and Amanda Ray Metro, 34, of Red Deer, was charged with 13 offences, including:

· Possession of property over $5,000

· Flight from police (x2)

· Dangerous operation

· Assault peace officer with weapon (x3)

Following a judicial hearing, Mazzei and Metro were remanded into custody, and are scheduled to appear in Wetaskiwin Provincial court on Nov. 18.
