Red Deer rental costs still low, but on the rise

Despite slowly rising rental costs in Red Deer, the city continues to have some of the most affordable rental accommodations in the country.

According to the latest National Rent Report from Rentals.ca, Red Deer ranked 32nd of 35 Canadian communities listed in the report.

Statistics show the average rent for a one-bedroom unit in Red Deer in October was $953 per month, up 0.3 per cent from September and up 4.6 per cent from October 2020.

The average rent for a two-bedroom unit in Red Deer last month was $1,082, up 2.3 per cent from September and 5.8 per cent from October 2020.

Elsewhere in Alberta, the average rent for a one-bedroom unit in Calgary last month was $1,256 per month, while a two-bedroom unit rented for an average of $1,576, placing it 27th on the list of Canadian cities listed.

In Lethbridge, the average rent in October was $1,040 per month for a one-bedroom unit, while a two-bedroom rented for an average of $1,169, placing it 30th on the list.

Edmonton placed 31st on the list with an average rent of $1,028 per month for a one-bedroom unit, while a two-bedroom rented for an average of $1,263.

Lloydminster placed 35th on the list, with an average rent of $753 per month in October for a one-bedroom unit, while a two-bedroom rented for an average of $870 per month.

Vancouver topped the list again last month, with an average rent of $2,216 per month for a one-bedroom unit, and $3,057 per month for a two-bedroom.
