COVID ICU admissions below 100 for first time since late August

CENTRAL ZONE

Red Deer has 151 active cases of COVID-19, down one from Wednesday.

Meantime, recoveries in Red Deer rose by 17 to 9,061, as the total number of COVID-19 cases attributed to Red Deer rose by 16 in the last day to 9,293.

Red Deer’s death toll stemming from COVID-19 remains 81, with the last one reported Nov. 16.

The Central Zone as a whole has 861 active cases as of Thursday, down 36 in the last day.

There are 111 hospitalizations, down four, and nine people receiving intensive care at Red Deer Regional Hospital, the same as yesterday.

Central Zone has recorded 387 deaths, including one reported in the last day — a male in his 80s who passed away Nov. 16.

PROVINCIAL NUMBERS

The active caseload is now 5,384, down 137 from Wednesday. This with the province adding 383 new cases of COVID-19 in the last 24 hours.

With 8,948 tests conducted over the past 24 hours, the seven-day positivity rate is 4.74 per cent.

There are 498 people currently in hospital with COVID-19, down 18 from Wednesday, with 94 of those patients in ICU, down six from yesterday. It’s the first time since late those numbers have been below 500 and 100, respectively.

Of the 404 not in ICU, 260 are unvaccinated, 25 have had one dose, and 106 have had two doses. Another 13 have had three doses.

Of the 94 in ICU, 74 are unvaccinated, three have had one dose, and 14 have had two doses. Another three have had three doses.

There have been five additional deaths reported to Alberta Health in the last 24 hours, bringing the province’s death toll from the virus now to 3,209.

VACCINATIONS

Alberta has delivered 6,762,812 vaccine doses as of Nov. 17, up 22,548 in the last day.

88.2 per cent of Alberta’s eligible 12+ population has received at least one dose (75.0% total population), and 82.7 per cent of those eligible are fully vaccinated (70.4% total population).

A total of 336,010 people have received three doses, up 4,496.

In Red Deer, 73,639 (80.3% of eligible & 69.2% *total population) people have received at least one dose, up 59. Meanwhile, 69,579 (75.9%/65.4%) are fully vaccinated with two doses, up 148. (*Government of Alberta uses a population of 106,395 for Red Deer; of those 91,672 are eligible)
