After a 5-2 win over the Warriors in Moose Jaw Tuesday night, the Red Deer Rebels followed that up with a 3-2 victory over the Pats in Regina Wednesday evening.

The first period at the Brandt Centre began with the Pats hitting the scoreboard first when Tanner Howe scored his fifth goal of the season on Rebels goalie Chase Coward, with an assist by Drew Englot at the 3:36 mark.

Red Deer’s Kai Uchacz then responded at 15:01, scoring his fourth goal of the season on netminder Matthew Kieper, with an assist from Talon Brigley, bringing the game to a 1-1 tie.

Just under three minutes later, Kai Uchacz assisted teammate Kalan Lind for his fourth of the season as well, giving the visitors a 2-1 lead heading into the break.

After 20-minutes of play, shots on goal were tied 9-9.

The second period saw Red Deer’s Hunter Mayo sent to the box for slashing at the 5:07 mark and Regina did not wait long to seize opportunity. About 45 seconds later, Stanislav Svozil made his debut goal of the season and on the power play, assisted by Ryker Evans, bringing the game back to a 2-2 tie.

Then with the Rebels’ Blake Stevenson off the ice for a high-sticking penalty, rookie Talon Brigley scored a short-handed goal, his first of the season at 14:18, unassisted. It would later prove to be the game-winner.

Although the second period ended with the Rebels leading 3-2, the Pats outshot Red Deer 12-11 in the middle frame.

The third period saw great effort by the Pats to tie the game once more as they outshot the Rebels 13-6. They pulled their goalie for the final minute, but were unable to tie the game before time expired.

Despite the Pats outshooting the Rebels 34-26 over three periods, Red Deer won where it mattered most.

Red Deer went 0/2 on the power play, while Regina went 1/2 with the man advantage.

The third star of the game went to Regina’s Ryker Evans, with the second star going to teammate Stanislav Svozil. The first star went to Red Deer’s Kai Uchacz.

The win for the Rebels increases their record to 11-6-1, keeping them tied for first in the WHL’s Central Division. The loss for the Pats leaves their record in third place in the East Division with a record of 6-8-0.

For the final game of their road trip out east, the Rebels will be playing against the Raiders at the Art Hauser Centre in Prince Albert on Nov. 12 at 7 p.m. CDT (6 p.m. MT).
