Alberta dips below 600 COVID hospitalizations

Although updated provincial numbers were provided on Wednesday, COVID-19 case counts for specific communities and age demographics, however, were not available.

This means Red Deer’s current total of active cases remains at 234.

Elsewhere, recoveries remain at 8,893 with total cases identified in the city since the start of the pandemic remaining at 9,205.

Red Deer’s active case rate also remains steady at 219.9 per 100k, which compares to a rate of 84.0 in Calgary, 78.8 in Edmonton, and 169.9 in Lethbridge.

CENTRAL ZONE

The Central Zone as a whole, however, has 1,067 active cases as of Wednesday, down 43 from Tuesday. There are 119 hospitalizations, down five, with 10 people receiving intensive care at Red Deer Regional Hospital, down one from Tuesday.

The Central Zone has had 373 deaths linked to COVID-19, with none reported on Wednesday.

Elsewhere, the Calgary Zone has 1,777 active cases of COVID-19, the Edmonton Zone 1,308, the North Zone 1,299, the South Zone 554, and three additional cases in unconfirmed locations.

PROVINCIAL NUMBERS

Across Alberta, another 484 new cases of COVID-19 were announced on Wednesday.

That brings the total number of active cases in the province now to 6,008 – down 82 from Tuesday.

With 11,169 tests conducted over the past day, the province’s test positivity rate is roughly 4.3 per cent.

There are 2,479 active variant cases in the province or 41.2 per cent of all active cases.

There are 582 Albertans currently in hospital with COVID-19, down 26 from Tuesday, with 123 of those patients in ICU, down five from Tuesday.

There have been 5 new deaths reported to Alberta Health in the last 24 hours, bringing the virus’ death toll in our province to 3,164.

VACCINATIONS (Tuesday’s numbers below, no updated information available Wednesday)

As of Nov. 8, a total of 6,649,757 doses of COVID-19 vaccine have been administered in Alberta, up 18,195 over the past day.

Across the province, 87.6 per cent of eligible Albertans aged 12+ have received at least one dose (74.5% total population), with 81.4 per cent of those eligible now fully vaccinated (69.2% total population).

In Red Deer, 73,068 (79.7% of eligible & 68.7% *total population) people have received at least one dose, up 49 over the past day.

Meanwhile, 68,362 (74.5%/64.2%) are fully vaccinated with two doses, up 118 over the past day.
