Red Deer holds steady with 234 active COVID-19 cases, records one new death

Red Deer has 234 active cases of COVID-19 as of Tuesday, the same as the day before.

However, one new death has also been reported, bringing the virus’ death toll in our city to 78.

Elsewhere, the city’s total number of recorded cases is up by 17 over the past day to 9,205, while recoveries are up 16 to 8,893.

Red Deer’s active case rate remains at 219.9 per 100k, which compares to a rate of 84.0 in Calgary, 78.8 in Edmonton, and 169.9 in Lethbridge.

CENTRAL ZONE

The Central Zone as a whole has 1,110 active cases as of Tuesday, down 60 from Monday. There are 124 hospitalizations, up three, with 11 people receiving intensive care at Red Deer Regional Hospital, the same as Monday.

The Central Zone has had 373 deaths linked to COVID-19, with two more reported on Tuesday.

PROVINCIAL NUMBERS

Across Alberta, another 422 new cases of COVID-19 were announced on Tuesday.

That brings the total number of active cases in the province now to 6,090 – down 297 from Monday.

With 8,330 tests conducted over the past day, the province’s test positivity rate is roughly five per cent.

There are 2,175 active variant cases in the province or 35.7 per cent of all active cases.

There are 608 Albertans currently in hospital with COVID-19, the same as Monday, with 128 of those patients in ICU, down seven from Monday.

There have been eight new deaths reported to Alberta Health in the last 24 hours, with four reported on Monday now removed from the total, for a net increase of four deaths over the past day. The virus’ death toll in our province now stands at 3,159.

VACCINATIONS

As of Nov. 8, a total of 6,649,757 doses of COVID-19 vaccine have been administered in Alberta, up 18,195 over the past day.

Across the province, 87.6 per cent of eligible Albertans aged 12+ have received at least one dose (74.5% total population), with 81.4 per cent of those eligible now fully vaccinated (69.2% total population).

In Red Deer, 73,068 (79.7% of eligible & 68.7% *total population) people have received at least one dose, up 49 over the past day.

Meanwhile, 68,362 (74.5%/64.2%) are fully vaccinated with two doses, up 118 over the past day.
