The Alberta Party held its Annual General Meeting for 2021 in a virtual format on Nov. 6, due to COVID-19 protocols.

Party officials say over 175 party members and observers attended to hear an update from Alberta Party President Conrad Guay and an address from the new Leader of the Alberta Party, Barry Morishita, former mayor for the City of Brooks, AB.

Meeting highlights included:

  • Election of the 2021-2022 Board of Directors
  • Approval of the 2020 Financial Statements
  • Q&A session with party Leader, Barry Morishita
  • Education sessions on Fundraising, Youth engagement, Constituency Association Building and General Idea Sharing

The following individuals were elected to the 2021-2022 Alberta Party Board of Directors:

  • Annalisa Jensen
  • Beth Bell
  • Darrell Dunn
  • Diana Ly
  • Doug Cronk
  • Jeff McLarty
  • Joey Oberhoffner
  • Joy Monsma
  • Marshall Suchy
  • Max Christie
  • Tracy Edwards
  • Wayne Jackson

Alberta Party Leader Barry Morishita addressed the membership and highlighted a series of goals for the party for the next few months and his vision for the future.

“A consistent lack of informed leadership has led to poor decisions, lack of action, and ideologically driven agendas,” said Morishita, in a press release. “We are living in the aftermath of the consequences. We all know, all too well, the devastating effects on our families, our friends and our communities. And in the case of the pandemic, the unnecessary loss of life, loss of livelihoods and a loss of hope.”

“When I chose to seek the Leadership of the Alberta Party,” he continued. “I came committed to focus on the people, the planet and the prosperity of Albertans. When I became leader of our Party on September the first, I made a commitment to you, as Party members, that I would listen and our direction would be set together.”

“Our promise, as the Alberta Party, has always been to understand and act on behalf of all Albertans,” added Morishita. “If we take the time to understand and be informed, together we will find practical, meaningful solutions. This is what defines us– bringing together willing Albertans that have diverse opinions and new ideas that will bring hope to us again.”
