Important Reminder

End of daylight saving time a good opportunity to check smoke and CO detectors

Nov 5, 2021 | 10:00 AM

Daylight saving time ends this Sunday, November 7.

Clocks will be turned back one hour at 2:00 a.m. In addition to making the time change, the City of Lethbridge Fire & Emergency Services is reminding residents that it’s also an opportunity to check their smoke and carbon monoxide (CO) detectors.

The department says the expiry date should be reviewed every year and putting in fresh batteries is an important step to ensure the devices are working properly. If a smoke or CO detector is more than 10 years old, officials say it will need to be replaced.

In a release, it was stated that “having a working smoke/CO detector is the best way to protect your family in the case of a fire or carbon monoxide.”
