Red Deer records 9,000th case of COVID-19

Red Deer now sits at 340 active cases of COVID-19, up 15 from Thursday.

Meantime, the city’s total number of recorded cases is up 28 in the last day to 9,018, while recoveries are up 13 to 8,602.

Red Deer’s death toll stemming from COVID-19 is 76, with the last one reported Oct. 28.

LOOK-BACK: On this day one year ago, there were 185 total cases of COVID-19 recorded in the city (+28 over the previous week), with 38 active cases (+6) and zero deaths.

The only municipalities to record more total cases than Red Deer throughout the pandemic are Calgary (96,056) and Edmonton (76,158).

Lethbridge has recorded 6,870, Medicine Hat has had 4,414, Fort McMurray has recorded 8,000, and Grande Prairie sits at 6,704 as of Oct. 29.

The Central Zone as a whole has 1,635 active cases as of Friday, down 10 from Thursday. There are 162 hospitalizations, up one, with 18 people receiving intensive care at Red Deer Regional Hospital, down one.

The Central Zone has had 358 deaths linked to COVID-19, with one reported today.

The zone’s one-day positivity rate for Oct. 28 is 13.64 per cent with 924 tests done.

PROVINCIAL NUMBERS

Across Alberta, another 603 new cases of COVID-19 were announced Friday out of 10,505 tests.

That makes for a seven-day positivity rate of 5.94 per cent, down from 6.96 per cent one week ago. Active cases across the province are down 229 to 8,158.

-31.32 per cent are completely vaccinated
-5.22 per cent are partially vaccinated
-63.46 per cent are unvaccinated

There are 765 Albertans hospitalized due to the virus, down 14, including 180 in intensive care, down five.

Of the 585 not in ICU, 368 are unvaccinated, 47 have one dose, and 170 have two doses.

Of the 180 in ICU, 145 are unvaccinated, 10 have one dose, and 25 have two doses.

The province’s death toll is now 3,093, meaning nine more deaths have been reported since yesterday. One death recorded twice has been removed from the total, the province says.

VACCINATIONS

Across the province, 86.9 per cent of Alberta’s eligible 12+ population has received at least one dose (73.9% total population), and 79.8 per cent of those eligible are fully vaccinated (67.9% total population).

A total of 6,528,133 have been administered, up 15,001 in the last 24 hours. A total of 257,477 Albertans have now received a third dose, up from 228,280 a week ago.

In Red Deer, 72,498 (79.1% of eligible & 68.1% *total population) people have received at least one dose, up 58 in the last day.

Meanwhile, 66,683 (72.7%/62.7%) are fully vaccinated with two doses, up 184 in one day. (*Government of Alberta uses a population of 106,395 for Red Deer; of those 91,672 are eligible)
